Launch site can be hazardous particularly in larger conditions with prevailing swell from the west to northwest
Launching from veterans memorial is best accomplished in the beach area immediately to the right of the boat crane equipment
The north-south oriented rock walls provide some cover but you will immediately paddle into oncoming shore break and large sets depending on wind speed and direction
It is best to paddle at around 1 mile northbound off-shore to clear Avon point
There is no reprieve if you surf to the right and end up too close to shore
Aim no further right than downtown Cleveland (you will see the sky scrapers)
Once you start, the shoreline for the first mile or two is rocky/cliff /private property
Finish
Edgewater Beach (Lower lot/Eastern beach)
County Park end (West)
Run Length

Weather & More
Ideal conditions are prevailing winds WSW at least 15kts
The wave direction likes to clock further south than the direction of the wind given the effects from the shoreline
The further north you start, the more eastbound the swell will travel
Once you clear Avon point, the shoreline drops away south and if you have surfed towards the Cleveland skyline (or left of it) you will end up 2-3 miles off shore
Wave size builds offshore and typically moves about ten degrees offset to the right of wind direction
